Tonya Hoover, Acting State Fire Marshal for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, hopes other states will use portions of California’s efforts as a model for establishing their own requirements for home fire sprinklers. She says the impact of this code change won’t be immediate because existing house stock is not sprinklered. But she says that even when the economy is struggling, these changes will have an impact on public safety.
